The Pew Charitable Trusts is a nationwide organization that agreed with leaders of Alaska in 2015 to provide free technical assistance in helping to analyze the source of the booming prison population.
The Justice Reinvestment Initiative (JRI) was a short-term (Jun-Dec, 2015) project whose goal was to identify the main causes of prison growth in the state and to develop recommendations to address those issues.
The Results First Initiative (RFI) is a longer-term project (one to two-years) building effort and ongoing benefit-cost analysis which comprises collecting data on the costs and benefits of programs to reduce recidivism, determining and comparing the long-term return on investment achieved by these programs, and promoting evidence-based decision-making.
